In your driveway: a paint correction & polishing start to finish
Correction removes defects by leveling a few microns of clear coat, which is why depth readings come first. Clear coat is finite — typically 40 to 60 microns — and once it is gone the only fix is respraying.
Every job starts with a test section: the least aggressive pad and compound that clears the defects, established on one panel before the whole car is touched. Starting with the heaviest cut is faster and takes more clear coat than the car can spare.
A panel wipe before assessment is what separates correction from concealment. Polishing oils temporarily fill what they have not removed, and a finish that looks perfect until the oils evaporate was never corrected.
Not every defect should be chased. Deep scratches that catch a fingernail are usually through the clear, and removing them entirely would take more material than is safe. We will tell you which marks are staying and why.

What is paint correction, and does my car need it?
Machine polishing that levels the clear coat to remove swirl marks, holograms, water spots and light scratches — removing them rather than filling them the way a glaze does. If the paint looks hazy in sunlight or shows a web of fine scratches under a light, it needs it. It is done in stages, from a heavier compound to a fine polish, and it is measured so the clear coat is not over-thinned.
Can scratches be removed from car paint?
Scratches in the clear coat — the ones a fingernail does not catch on — polish out. Scratches through the clear into the color or the primer do not; they can be made less visible but they are a paint job. The test is the fingernail, and the honest answer comes before the polisher is switched on.
