Interior Detailing, in practice
Interiors are where the time goes, and where the difference between a valet and a detail is most obvious. Most of the work is extraction, steam and hand detailing in the places a vacuum nozzle cannot reach.
Pet hair is removed before vacuuming, not by it. Rubber tools and brushes lift woven hair out of the pile; a vacuum on its own glides over it and leaves most of it in place.
Headliners are the one surface we deliberately underwork. The foam behind the fabric is held on with adhesive that lets go if it gets wet, and a sagging headliner cannot be undone. Spot-cleaned, never soaked.
Odour is treated at the source. Milk under a seat, damp carpet from a leaking seal, or smoke in the vents each need finding and removing — an air freshener over the top of any of them wears off in a week.
