Every scratch in a clear coat came from something touching it. Most came from washing. The order here — rinse, foam, then contact — exists so that the grit is off the paint before a mitt goes near it.
Wheels and arches are done first and with their own buckets and brushes. Brake dust is iron; dragging it across a bonnet is exactly how swirl marks appear on cars that are washed often.
A sealant is machine-applied and buffed by hand. Expect months of protection from a sealant, rather than the years a coating gives — the difference is prep and price, and we will say which is worth it for your car rather than defaulting to the expensive one.
Tyres are dressed to satin. High-gloss dressings sling onto the paint on the first drive and attract dust for a fortnight.
