Ceramic Coating, in practice
A coating is a semi-permanent layer that bonds to the clear coat. It makes the car easier to clean, holds gloss, and resists chemical etching from sap and bird lime. It is not scratch-proof, and anyone selling it as such is overselling it.
Everything that matters happens before the coating comes out of the bottle. Decontamination, correction and a panel wipe take the great majority of the job; the coating itself goes on in an hour or two. A cheap coating quote is almost always a quote for skipping the prep.
A coating locks in whatever is underneath it. Applied over swirl marks, those swirls are sealed under it for years. That is why correction and coating are quoted together rather than separately.
Coatings need a cure window — the car stays dry for the first day or so, and reaches full hardness over the following week. We schedule around that rather than handing back a car you cannot use.
